Replacing a lock can repair a fault or restore control over access. A complete mechanism is not always required: if the lock case and alignment remain sound, replacing the cylinder may be enough.
When to consider replacement
- A key is lost and you do not know who may have it.
- You moved home or changed tenants or staff.
- The key sticks, requires force or the mechanism spins freely.
- The lock has corrosion, play or signs of manipulation.
- You want stronger protection against common attack methods.
Cylinder, lock and protection
The cylinder must be the correct size and should not protrude excessively. Depending on the door, a security cylinder, protective escutcheon and multipoint lock may be combined. Selection should reflect the door, daily use and budget without unrealistic claims of absolute security.
Correct installation includes checking door and frame alignment. If a key starts sticking, request an assessment before a lockout occurs.
